About: Tonja Horn, MSW, LCSW
In my professional life, I received a Master's in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, and I have worked in the Chicago area throughout my Social Work career in Private Practice, Community Mental Health, Health Clinics, and School Social Work settings. I have worked with and understand the developmental needs across the lifespan and enjoy working with all age groups! My therapeutic style is integrative, collaborative and encouraging. I work with clients to establish individualized, realistic, clear intentions based on clients’ personal values. I take an integrative approach to treatment and help clients work through challenges by way of determining patterns and bringing awareness to the areas of life in need of attention. My practice specializes in helping clients with Mood Disorders (Anxiety, Depression and Adjustment), Disordered Eating, as well as Chronic Health Conditions, with a particular focus on Diabetes related Behavioral Health and Personal Growth through Integrative Work. My therapeutic approach is grounded in integrating a holistic approach to healing through Humanistic Therapy, Mindfulness Practice and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients move towards a place of balanced well-being. I very much enjoy working with individuals exploring the realm of living a meaningful life and working together to integrate one’s growth into daily life.
In my personal life, I enjoy being surrounded by nature and take every opportunity to be in relation with the natural world. Trees, water, plants, animals, air, sunlight, stars, and the rhythm of the seasons, all provide meaning and value in my life. Growing up in a small country town and living my adult life in an urban environment has brought to light how much I value time in nature and how important it is for my well-being. You can find me camping, hiking and likely sitting under a tree relaxing, or simply gardening and getting to know the little animals in my urban backyard. I love food and sharing meals with friends and family, and often find myself listening to music and dancing while cooking! I can be an introvert and extrovert all in one day’s time, and will spend quite time reading and learning and then enjoying a party with friends! I enjoy learning deeply and this includes learning deeply about people. I am curious and adventurous by nature and these innate qualities guide me through this wild and beautiful life. I feel grateful to be invited into the lives of others in both my personal and professional life, and value the exploration of all parts of life, the light and meaning and the dark shadows of meaning. All parts are valid and important in the navigation of life.
